Bonfire..

so..i gotta admit..i'm kind of digging the new third eye blind song (bonfire)..well, the beginning/ending anyway. what is it about great intros (outros)? theres SO many. its like so easy or something..like now when i hear a song, if it starts off strong its become like a red flag almost like 'uh oh, its about to go downhill'..and usually, it does..:( but i was listening tonite and i knew, so yeah, i like the first and last oh, 20 seconds or so of the new 3rd eye blind, hehe..

other awesome intros whose rest of the song i dont care about:'gimme shelter', the end of 'what goes around' (Justin timberlake), many of his song's endings for that matter, 'stars still pretty' by aeroplane pageant (the middle)..basically i'm noticing myself like these pieces of songs..like they're parts, were I a musician, i'd explore more. whats going on, whats wrong w/me? is there something wrong w/me?? what am i hearing that they're not..

Ruminations on Micachu..

so i literally cant stop listening to that song ('turn me well')..i thot about it in the car today..i realized, its strength is in its subtle complexities, its background..one of those songs you make a new discovery each listen/need headphones. its a very simple, repetitious melody over some great embellishments, some of the most interesting ive heard (aka the 'vacuum sample'!:). great jack hammer beat, the harmonious, underlying accordion-like counterpoint..i love the line 'you squeezed my heart so tight tonight, you must return it before you leave, cos when you get to me...you turn me well' (and of course the 'ding'. oh and vocal wise, i love her's along with the 'auto-tunesy/robotic' harmonies). i lovelovelove this song. to me, this is the future of pop. if i could title it though it'd be 'the vacuum song'

Micachu 'Turn Me Well'

this song is really growing one me..its my new fav. song

and from rough trade's site:
'So, a quick introduction, Bjork is said to be a fan of Micachu and can probably indentify with another artist brave enough to take pop music into entirely uncharted territory. Micachu is largely inspired by Harry Partch who famously used an array of customised and home made instruments. These included a xylophone made of light bulbs, a ‘Cloud Chamber’ made out of pyrex dishes that could not only be played musically but detect particles of ionizing radiation and a series of highly complicated 44 stringed instruments.

Similarly Micachu uses a modified guitar played with a hammer action called a ‘chu’ and a bowed instrument fashioned from a CD rack. She also uses improvised instruments, such as glass bottles or a vacuum cleaner.'

....fascinating! yay!
