Enjoy, which is a Bjork title

Do you have to know every ingredient in the chocolate bar or whatever in order to enjoy it? NO! you just enjoy it, thats sort of how i listen to music. i don't have to know what every lyric means or the poeticism going on necessarily. thats the intellect.

An initial music listen anyway should be purely visceral, just reactionary. how does it make you FEEL? don't try and dissect and over analyze the shit, did you enjoy it or did you not? Did the chocolate taste yummy? Then go and do your dissecting and reading down the ingredients and nutrition facts list if you want...

I see all these people in my Joanna Newsom facebook group like little investigators 'Oh I know what this line means!!' like doing this detective work. Thats fine and all but that is not how I listen to music especially her. Her music takes you on to a nother level, it is transcendental , it is indeed... otherworldly and I'm not sure she comes from Earth.

Anyway, just a reminder to take music on surface level first, do take it first for face value and whether or not you simply like or don't like how it sounds then go from there. Maybe one day I'll analyze all her lyrics but, I'm still too busy enjoying and digesting them to get that far. I question if she even wants you to understand all the little riddles weaved within. The inside joke sometimes is for a chosen few.

Also, nothing against these people who do, but I read along the lyrics to the song and they are beautiful and it doesnt bother me if I don't understand it 137% or whatever. A little mystery is good

New Bjork

Over the weekend, i listened to new Bjork. Warning, it had a physical reaction on me. it brought me to weeping tears on several songs, reading along, i could totally relate on many levels. Yes its a heartbreak album on the raw most pure form, ending on a note of hope with "Quicksand" probably my favorite track.

The first track that immediately jumped out at me though was "Family" and i count "Black Lake", ("Quicksand"), and "Lionsong" my favorites.

Thanks to Bjork for having the courage to make this, what with the emotional challenge of it all alone, and.................... for reminding us all, humanity, that through the hardships you can make beauty. Beauty can and should come of it. It's really inspiring to say the least and while it wasn't easy i am sure i will listen again all the way through eventually. Beauty prevails.

Mindy Project, Girls

This makes twice now, the season finale's have ended with boy 'rushing back to rescue/ save/ and / or / just be "knight in shining armor'"

This makes me both cringe n wanna vomit, and as well, per the last Mindy episode tonight- shout with joy, as it had been a long time comin for that kiss.

So- on the one hand, well written.. on the other- vomit gag.

GIRLS did this in their season finale LAST season and i wanted to vomit. With Mindy, I was happy for some reason, I guess it felt more 'earned' i'm not sure.

In any case, to be totally fair- I disagree with both. I guess thats me bein broken hearted a couple times and just.. I'm so against that 'he'll come rescue you' aesthetic. It works and people eat it up, but I think its teaching the wrong thing. It makes women wanna wait for that. Disney does this too. Bjork teaches her daughter against that and I think thats so important, these modern adult shows are really kinda doing the same 'fairy tale' thing.. in their own adult mature manner, but stripped down, its the same thing. Call it what you want. Its good for TV.. blahblahblahhh but lets just call it on it, and recognize what is going down.

I liked the last episode of Mindy, the end anyway, and it is a show I follow, but I just wanted to put that out there. I do watch GIRLS too, I dont find it really funny at all, theres some funny things about the characters themselves, but the writing itself... I see it more as a documentary. Anyhow, had to get that off my chest- I saw a similarity between the two and wanted to write about it.

Song's Problem

So I was listening to steely dan at music engineer's house other day...... and 1. i dont like steely dan he was just showing me some dvd of the making of which i could appreciate...... 2 i realized something- a song's number 1 problem for the most part.......... I think.... is there are too many instrumentations. The simpler the better.

Not that i dont love a ton of quirky instuments/tation dont get me wrong...... but steely dan had a song where there were just drums for a while...... n that actually sounded great. the moment they layered on the guitar and bass it kinda ruined it........ something in the simplicity of just drums and voice was really great for them/ for that specific song.

I've read Bjork say something similar....... the simpler the better and I do agree I must say. I'm seeing that firsthhand now.

Producer::::::

I am volunteering myself as a producer to any band/ musician who should so take me on........ dare...... what have you............ I believe in myself that much- as a producer, b/c deep down- i believe........ (i am one). I know how an album/ song should sound......... i 'fix' songs in my head all the time. In a way- I am my own dj- doing various remixes in my head- but no technology to do this with (with which to do this). Anyhow- I would love to dabble in the world of music producing while in NYC- n that is the truth.

In the words of Bjork......................................................................

'I dare you........ to take me on........... I dare youuuuuuUUUUU- to show me your palms'........... :) and i do, i dare you. (bands, musicians, musicmakers a like).

So It struck Me.............

'Biophilia'----- too ambitious for its own good. ..........

And what I mean by that is......... it's trying too much to be (two)- things.

It's, (one) first and foremost- an (app). An incredible, (ambitious) app, that I think, I do feel n believe, is taking music to the 'next level'.

I'm writing this, b/c I don't think I've written extensively (at all)- on Bjork's, Biophilia. But basically, the album sucks, and there's one good song. ('Mutual Core'). I think it's too clever for its own good. (Her problem a lot of the time)---- where... the concept- gets in the way of the (songs).

I don't know that the concepts are in 'the way'--- or just that, she's lost her edge. Not sure which, but these huge, sort of over-arching concept albums are too big for their britches, I'd venture to guess. Where the focus is too much on the concept (itself)--- (a la.... the 'app')..... n less on..... the music.

I think it's a great concept at that. Fully embracing n taking charge of this 'app' culture- seeing it, n coming at it through the prism of music.... n thats all great. But, when the music get sacrificed (so to speak)---- that, I see as a problem. And with or without the app, you could say/ argue the music would be the same. But I don't know..... it's a great shot at that. I think something, many artists will pioneer/ n continue pioneering for ages to come, it's a great start in other words, but music wise....... it's lost. It's gotten 'lost' in the concept of it all...... same with St. Vincent, her's got lost in the experimentation...... same with Theresa Andersson..... I could go on n on here...... a lot of the music I hear is (getting 'lost'). N it's almost like, I hear it in there....... but it needs to be pulled out. Yanked out. But it's there (I think). I fear, music will continue 'getting lost' , sent in the 'wayside' in the name of technology/ 'concepts'. I know this is a little bit of a ridiculous fear, but it's one at that.

Anyhow- that is how I feel towards Bjork's Biophilia. I think it's an amazing concept (as an app)- n nothing else. The music is, shite. Absolute abstract nonsense. Atonal, just shit. N I'm not afraid to say that (n I hate saying it, b/c I have fierce admiration for Bjork- she's a musical hero for sure.. but over the years, her music has gone (straight) down hill. ) Leaving me wondering...... what exactly happens/ is happening here. Is music being sent to the 'wayside' in the name of apps n technology? Where are the songs amidst the (heavily instrumented)- like, this bouquet of sounds/ concepts but no actual songs.

The one good thing out of all of this is that she (keeps) experimenting........... N that, in and of itself, is worthy and of note. But as for the music......... I'm not so sure she's a musician anymore..... as much as she's....... a scientist? ....... (of music)........ N that's okay too, just......... unfortunate, and I hope she keeps experimenting, bad music or good...... that's all I can hope at this point. Her golden age/ hey day is gone for sure....... but she is making other discoveries/ breaking new ground, in other ways....... in the way of technology- n that is where I see her career going (n staying). No more 'Posts' or hits like that, but other new paths being paved. N that's okay. I always try to look at the bright side.

(It can be tough).

i have to post aGAIN!.....

i am so obsessed w/this song----its not even funny. Basically, i see punjabi/'bhangra'/middle eastern music, beats/instruments-as the 'future' of pop/dance music. What with the insane rhythms (so complex)-so detailed-the amount of DEtail..............................................! i cant help but (love it)-and see it making its way (more)-in to Pop. What with the omar souleyman/bjork collabs. and such, and stuff like that. i hope to see more of that. i really hear it it Pop music-which is the interesting part........................................... b/c........................................................ these sounds have been around for CENTURies......................................................... so basically, its like i hear old music-in 'new music'. -which is interesting. i think a revival (of sorts)-is going to happen-a 'reinvention' more than anything so to speak. -What with MIA-n stuff like that....................................THATs, the future........................................................ i think this also ties in to my 'romanian'/eastern european obsession/kick. What with Edward Maya, Alexandra Stan, and Inna (among others). theres a folk side to it-i cant explain-one that makes it unique to the region.

Bjork-the 'regression'

so...........................................Bjork once said, how it's her 'life's mission'-to create the 'perfect song'. N how she's only got about 50 yrs. left to try...i guess she was around 30 at the time....................................................what's funny is....................................................i feel like she was closer (then)-than she is now. (just heard 'Moon'-off biophilia on npr all songs)

been a while!...

bjork, is a bit of a mariah carey situation---she had her heyday (in the 90s), and now..has churned out a lot of crap since (a LOT)--and now, we're all just sort of waiting, waiting for those stars to realign, and a new bjork, be born. (its a prayer rather).

..and,,, this is (also), a reminder to write my 'fragmented pieces' essay. i have a very long essay coming, on the 'fragmentation of society/(information)'..in the works

...listening to new bon iver!..gotta sit down for this one! woohoo!

p.s.
new bjork sounds like a vespertine and/or volta b-side............rehash, rehash 'trash'............praying hard.................
