Enjoy, which is a Bjork title

Do you have to know every ingredient in the chocolate bar or whatever in order to enjoy it? NO! you just enjoy it, thats sort of how i listen to music. i don't have to know what every lyric means or the poeticism going on necessarily. thats the intellect.

An initial music listen anyway should be purely visceral, just reactionary. how does it make you FEEL? don't try and dissect and over analyze the shit, did you enjoy it or did you not? Did the chocolate taste yummy? Then go and do your dissecting and reading down the ingredients and nutrition facts list if you want...

I see all these people in my Joanna Newsom facebook group like little investigators 'Oh I know what this line means!!' like doing this detective work. Thats fine and all but that is not how I listen to music especially her. Her music takes you on to a nother level, it is transcendental , it is indeed... otherworldly and I'm not sure she comes from Earth.

Anyway, just a reminder to take music on surface level first, do take it first for face value and whether or not you simply like or don't like how it sounds then go from there. Maybe one day I'll analyze all her lyrics but, I'm still too busy enjoying and digesting them to get that far. I question if she even wants you to understand all the little riddles weaved within. The inside joke sometimes is for a chosen few.

Also, nothing against these people who do, but I read along the lyrics to the song and they are beautiful and it doesnt bother me if I don't understand it 137% or whatever. A little mystery is good

Joanna Newsom

Joanna Newsom i conclude, is a modern day Shakespeare. She uses words from English i have never heard before sometimes n then manages to............ RHYME THEM??????????? it would be a tragedy to take any one of her songs for granted. i predict a writer like her won't come along....... maybe ever again, not in my lifetime anyway. JoannaTheGreat

Today's Pondering: What's a Song's 'Worth' ..... ?

Today I ponder the worth of a song.

What's worth (.99) to one person.. may be worth 99,000,000.00 to another. You know?

Its all very subjective, and... like all great art.... I see vinyl records of the same caliber.

Take the Joanna Newsom album 'Ys' for example. You can buy the cd of that pretty much anywhere say for ten bucks.

To me? ........ That is a masterpiece, unlike anything I've heard, and probably unlike anything I'll ever hear in this
lifetime.

So.... to me...... that is up there with Picasso / Andy Warhol n such. Jackson Pollacks... not a direct comparison, workwise,
but just..... the cultural, and in this case, musical value and significance. It could be auctioned at Sotheby's in my mind.

I dont know how to put a 'museum fine art piece' price tag on it though.. you know? ... I guess maybe the master versions of
the songs... I'm not sure. It just begs the question, the worth of a song/ album n such, varies so greatly from one individual
to another.

That album, basically to me, Joanna Newsom 'Ys', is priceless. There is NO price tag. Those who get the pleasure of having heard
it, can consider themselves a 'lucky, extremely fortunate..... Few'. The fact that I have the hearing to get to hear that,
and enjoy its serene surreal beauty.... I consider like........ an 8th Wonder of the World. And I know Ive said something similar
before, but its always worth repearting, especially with an album such as 'Ys'.

So......... name that price, what is your favorite music worth to you, say from an art dealer perspective in a gallery sort of
situation.... Because honey.............. That album 'Ys' sure belongs in a museum somewhere- dedicated solely to IT. And that's
my 2 sense for Friday, TGIF! ;))) #JoannaNewsom.

NY (Ys)

..... most 'creative'- way i could come up with- for spelling 'NYE'.................

.......... (for those who 'dont know': Ys is the title of a Joanna Newsom album, pronounced Eez).... it's my favorite album, of her's, and my future tattoo. It changed my life (forever).

my mind races tonight:: i heard a song by cee-lo last night that i'm searching for, i heard it randomly in a restaurant, so..that kinda shit drives me crazy, i really need an app phone for that very (and only) reason. hmm, i dont know and theres a buncha other stuff..joanna's decision to license her songs to t-mobile etc. victoria's secret..t-mobile's the more recent one. makes me really appreciate (all the more), ppl like bjork, purists..who won't do that. i whole heartedly (dis) agree w/her, really heart breaking actually to see that done, that kind of tainting. that's tainting in the worst way to me. now, all i think of, when i hear 'bridges and balloons' is that damn commercial..she'll be here tomorrow night..i dont know if i'm going. what else..

ok, so twitter is no longer enough..(&is currently 'overwhelming' me)

so, i'm taking to this..currently feeling overwhelmed by twitter--and its plethora of 'good' info. there are times i just simply cant take it. everything seems interesting and i wanna read it all (and i wanna 'run away'). anyway, i'm taking to here b/c i cant fit what i have to say in twitter-the reason for this in the 1st place.

first (random): not sure what i think of new walkmen 'stranded'-something i like about it, reminds me of a paolo nutini song sort of. not a walkmen 'fan' or anything, but something i do like about them. cant put my finger on it.

next, learning about sugar minott (RIP)--how he pioneered dancehall and such.

now, i am just looking back, appreciating the pre-'twitter'/blog days, when artists went into studios, came out with a new album, and some filmmaker somewhere made documentaries about it (AFTER the fact). something i appreciate about that old-school approach, where every move, day in the studio, the process isnt tweeted about. i appreciate the mystery surrounding that process.

at the same time, i do enjoy reading these very things-these little anecdotes from times in the studio on tour etc. what THEY'RE listening to. i feel 2 ways about it i guess, but ultimately, the old-school, the 'mystery' is my favorite. joanna newsom, is on to something..i think its come full circle sort of and she represents that time in the past, and i just appreciate that. i feel more artists should look to her when it comes to releasing their album. (& keeping it underwraps) and i know ive already said this, but to me was worthing repeating. and nothing against these things, this is just a personal preference of mine. i think arcade fire did an OK job of protecting their recording process, this lead-up time..

Arcade Fire-follow up

so i just finished listening to their NPR interview--i kind of feel sorry for them..u know, a band, whose first album is the masterpiece that it is--kinda like 'Ys', how in the hell do you follow that up. neither song blows me away btw, i do like 'the suburbs' better (from middle to end), but..well its too soon to tell. i am ecstatic nonetheless, really glad they took their time w/this, and even more excited to see them again.

Amoeblog 2009-10 It's Autumn, Therefore We Have Joanna Newsom's "Only Skin"

Neal Morgan

theres very little i can find on this guy-my new obsession. but here's two:
Amoeblog 2009-10 Neal Morgan Chats

Amoeblog 2009-10 (In which Job interviews Neal Morgan...)

its mainly his work w/Joanna i admire so much, his approach to percussion is so similiar to mine. I had the pleasure of meeting him at her Charlottesville, VA show. I really do consider him a 'musical' hero.

'Joanna approach'

if i were a musician, i'd definitely take the joanna newsom approach and limit info. versus saturating it (of album's progression). i can really appreciate that and think more musicians should look to her in the way of news and sharing. i have no problem either way, but i guess the old-school in me can really appreciate and enjoy that. more surprise element

It's a beautiful day!

i'm not gonna spend much time on here, just came on to say, i feel like i have an album's worth of songs to get out of me. (maybe two) ive felt this way for awhile, but lately just more strongly. i dont know if thats a word. i am ready to write my own words and need to do less listening and more writing. it's a discipline i struggle with constantly, an addiction really, but a conscious decision that needs to be made and (somehow) stick with. joanna newsom and ellie goulding just came out...this does not make it any easier..

ps.i do miss the snow..
